Room-By-Room Temperature Control
Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV) Installation London
Many homes in London have radiators controlled by simple manual valves, requiring constant adjustment and often leading to rooms being overheated or uncomfortably cold. This wastes energy and creates inconsistent temperatures throughout your property. Installing thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) solves this by allowing each radiator to maintain its own set temperature, automatically responding to the conditions in each room.

Our TRV installation service involves a survey of your existing radiator valves and system. We then provide a clear scope for replacing manual valves with new, reliable thermostatic valves. The work includes draining down the relevant section of your heating system, professionally removing the old fittings, installing the new TRVs, and refilling and testing the system to ensure correct operation and no leaks.
TRVs are a compatible upgrade for virtually all wet central heating systems, regardless of your boiler's make, model, or age. This is a standalone improvement to your heating distribution, separate from boiler repairs or smart controls. Our installation provides a straightforward path to better comfort and potential energy savings without requiring complex system modifications.
The cost for TRV installation is provided as a fixed quote following a free survey of your property. Please visit our pricing page for more information on our current quote structure.

How it works
A method, not a guess

01
Free Home Survey
An engineer visits to assess your radiator valves, system type, and access, determining the exact valves needed and scope of work.
02
Fixed Quote Provided
You receive a clear, fixed-price quote for the TRV installation, based on the survey, with no hidden costs.
03
Scheduled Installation
On the agreed day, our engineers will isolate, drain, and carefully replace your valves, keeping disruption to a minimum.
04
Testing & Handover
We refill the system, thoroughly test each new TRV for operation and leaks, and explain how to use them.
6 things to check before you book TRV installation in London
Clarify if you need new valve bodies
Many older manual valves require full replacement, not just a new thermostatic head. A proper survey will identify if the existing valve tail and olive are compatible or need changing.
Confirm a system drain-down is included
Replacing valve bodies requires the relevant heating zone to be safely isolated and drained. The quote should explicitly include this labour, plus refilling, venting, and pressure testing.
Designate a bypass radiator
At least one radiator in the system must be left without a TRV, or have its TRV left fully open, to act as a bypass. This protects the boiler pump when all other TRVs close.
Check the quality and type of TRVs supplied
Ensure the quote specifies reliable, brand-name valves. Also confirm the chosen TRV type, such as angled or straight, matches your radiator pipe connections.
Ask about post-installation system balancing
Installing new valves alters the system's hydraulic resistance. A professional installation should include a basic rebalance to ensure even heat distribution after the work is complete.
Verify functional testing is part of the service
The engineer must test each new TRV through its full temperature range. They should check for leaks at the new joints and confirm the radiator heats and cools as the TRV head is adjusted.
Symptoms
Signs Your Radiators Need Thermostatic Radiator Valves
Manual radiator valves limit control and efficiency, which becomes apparent in daily use.
- You are constantly adjusting manual radiator valves in different rooms
- Some rooms consistently overheat while others remain too cold
- You leave windows open in winter to cool down overheated rooms
- Your energy bills are higher than expected for the comfort level achieved
- Radiators in unused rooms or spare bedrooms are left on unnecessarily
- You have no way to set and forget a comfortable temperature in individual rooms
Preparing for Your Visit
- 1Decide how many radiators you want fitted with TRVs and note their locations.
- 2Clear access to both sides of each radiator, including behind any furniture.
- 3Ensure you know the location of your filling loop and pressure gauge for system repressurisation.
When to Book TRV Installation
Book TRV installation to gain individual room temperature control and reduce energy waste from overheating. This is the correct upgrade from basic manual valves. Do not book TRV installation if you are looking for remote app-based control or automated heating schedules; that requires a smart heating controls installation. Also, if your existing TRVs are simply stuck or faulty, they may only need servicing or replacement heads, not a full installation.

TRV Installation for London Property Types
TRVs provide tailored temperature management suited to the varied room uses in London homes.
Victorian terrace
High-ceilinged reception rooms and smaller, draughtier bedrooms have vastly different heat requirements. TRVs allow the front room to be kept cosy while preventing the bedroom from becoming stuffy.
Mansion-block flat
Large, single-glazed windows and solid walls create unique thermal profiles for each room. TRVs compensate for this by allowing per-radiator temperature setting, improving overall comfort.
1930s semi-detached
Often used as family homes with different occupancy patterns in living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms. TRVs let you reduce heat in empty daytime bedrooms while keeping living areas warm.
New-build extension
New sunrooms or kitchen-diners with different insulation and glazing need separate temperature control from the original house. TRVs on the new radiators provide this independence.
Questions
TRV Installation FAQs for London homeowners
Will TRVs work with my old boiler?
Yes. Standard thermostatic radiator valves are mechanically operated and compatible with all gas, oil, and LPG boiler systems that use water-filled radiators. They do not require electrical connections or communication with your boiler, making them a universal upgrade.
Do I need a TRV on every radiator?
It is recommended to have TRVs on most radiators for full zonal control. However, one radiator (often in the room with your main wall thermostat) should usually be left on a manual valve without a TRV to act as a system bypass. Our survey will advise on the optimal setup for your home.
Can you replace just the TRV head, or the whole valve?
We assess each valve during the survey. Often, the entire valve body (including the lockshield) is replaced for a reliable, leak-free fit. If the existing valve body is in good condition, we may only replace the thermostatic head. The quote will specify what is included.
How long does a full house TRV installation take?
The duration depends on the number of radiators and system accessibility. For a typical 3-4 bedroom home, installing TRVs on all relevant radiators is usually completed within a single working day, with minimal disruption as we manage the system drain and refill efficiently.
What is the difference between this and smart heating controls?
This service installs standard mechanical TRVs that you adjust manually on the valve head. Smart heating controls involve electronic, app-controlled TRV heads and a central hub. We offer that as a separate service. Standard TRVs are a more cost-effective way to achieve basic room-by-room temperature control.
